From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The PIC took off from south st paul municipal airport (ksgs) at 0530 01/29/2022. The aircraft was a newly constructed experimental amateur built aircraft still in phase 1 flight testing. The mission for the flight was to identify a right wing heavy condition. The PIC flew south towards red wing MN, once he had the information the PIC turned back towards ksgs. While flying at about 2700 feet (1700 AGL) the engine quit running. The PIC attempted to restart the engine but was unsuccessful. An emergency landing spot was chosen in a corn field however the PIC was unable to reach the corn field and touched down on pierce county road e sliding across Wisconsin state highway 35 and coming to rest in a ditch on the west side of the highway. The PIC sustained serious injuries, he was extracted from the aircraft and transported to the hospital. The aircraft damage was determined to be substantial. Post-accident engine examination was performed at storage facility, engine appeared to be in operational condition with no apparent cause for the engine failure. MVP50P engine monitor removed from aircraft and sent to NTSB lab for data extraction.
