From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The aircraft departed lloyd stearman field Benton, KS (1K1) heading for kimberling city airport (m)64) kimberling city, KS at approximately 10:45 am on 08-05-2022. After departure, to the southeast toward the intended destination, the aircraft reached an altitude of approximately 300 to 500 feet above the ground the engine lost power for unknown reason(s). The pilot attempted to turn back to the airport. The pilot realized that he would not be able to land on the runway and elected to land in a field approximately 2500 feet to the east of the airport. The aircraft touched down in a plowed field.

After touchdown the nose gear fork was sheared from the nose gear strut. The nose strut dug into the soft dirt and broke loose from the firewall of the aircraft. This resulted in the aircraft nose and propeller digging into the dirt. This caused the aircraft to roll over onto its top. The pilot and passengers were not injured and exited the aircraft after it came to rest on its top.

AFTER DEPARTURE, TO THE SOUTHEAST TOWARD THE INTENDED DESTINATION, THE AIRCRAFT REACHED AN ALTITUDE OF APPROXIMATELY 300 TO 500 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND THE ENGINE LOST POWER FOR UNKNOWN REASON(S).
