From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraftprivacy data omitted, multi engine, retractable tricycle gear, lost directional control at approximately 4,600 ft MSL during an apparent instructional flight, producing an uncontrollable spin with subsequent ground impact around Galt, California. Two fatalities included one flight instructor with ATP multi engine rating, and one pilot with a private pilot certificate, single engine land. The aircraft impacted the ground in a marshy waterway, approximately 6 ft deep and 25 ft wide. The angle of attack at the site of impact was characteristic of a flatter spin. No fire noted at the site of impact. The aircraft impacted with the left and right engine props feathered and no curling. The power console indicated l/r mixture cut off position, l/r propellers full forward, l/r throttle levers in aft position. The landing gear was retracted and the gear handle was in the up position. Boost pumps were in low, fuel was detected in the left outboard section of the left wing during initial inspection at the site. No airman or maintenance logbooks have been produced at this time. This report will be updated when additional flight details are obtained when pilot and maintenance logbooks have been reviewed.
