What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On 10/20/2022, the scottsdale FSDO became aware that a bonanza crashed attempting a go-around at Nogales International (kols). The pic's go around attempt ended on the left downwind portion of the R-22 traffic pattern, landing hard w/out landing gear, followed by a post-crash fire. The PIC had minor injuries and his passenger was seriously injured (broken leg).
The PIC said the approach was normal and said gear was down showing the green light, but the in the flare, the left wing dropped and the plane yawed left. He applied right rudder with no response and initiated the go-around. He does not remember raising the gear during the go-around process. He reported poor power and was unable to sustain more than 90 knots, and landed gear up in the downwind terrain. A fire started, he helped his pax exit then attempted to collect his luggage. An airport worker who saw the plane dip out of sight drove to the site in time to pull the PIC away from the burning plane. An airport truck dashcam video captured the airplane explode (O2 bottle) just as the people were roughly 100 feet away from the plane.
