From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Accident aircraft departed runway 16, kjzp around 3PM nov. 4. Sky was clear, visibility was good and wind was light. Approximately 5 miles from the airport at 4500' when the engine began running rough, then quit running. Pilot turned around, thinking he could make it back to the airport. The prop was windmilling so he put the mixture to rich with no change. He cycled the left and right ignitions with no change. Nearly to the airport attempting to make rwy 34, he lost lift and dropped 30 or so feet down onto the landing gear, which collapsed, slid through the grass and came to a stop before reaching the taxiway.
