What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On November 29, 2022, about 19:10PM, a lear 45XR was substantially damaged when it was involved in a runway overrun at Batesville, AR (kbvx). 2 crew and 6 passengers were onboard the aircraft with the 2 crew members receiving minor injuries. The flight was being operated in accordance with instrument flight rules under the provision of 14 CFR part 91 as a business flight.
The flight originated at waterloo, IA (kalo) about 17:57PM and was destined for Batesville, AR(kbvx). The aircraft was cleared by air traffic control for the RNAV 8 into Batesville, AR via direct to the initial approach fix (iaf) cisog. The aircraft crossed the iaf at approximately 6200’ MSL with a ADS-B groundspeed of 285 knots. The aircraft continued on the approach and crossed the final approach fix (faf) nicin at approximately 2600’ MSL with an ADS-B groundspeed of 265 knots. The aircraft crossed the runway threshold at approximately 190 knots and landed around 170 knots groundspeed.
Brake application markings on runway 8 indicate that the aircraft was on the ground with 3021 feet remaining. The braking marks show interment braking application at 3021 feet and 2251 feet remaining. Brake marks starting at 2069 feet remaining show continuous braking application consistent with antiskid activation.
The aircraft left the runway surface 25 feet left of centerline at a groundspeed of between 120 and 100 knots. The aircraft continued through the overrun area and crossed a north/south runway. The aircraft then continued past the localizer antenna for runway 8. The nose gear separated 821 feet past the departure end of runway 8 while the aircraft had a groundspeed of 80 knots.
The aircraft came to rest 1181 feet past the departure end of runway 8 on a slight rise against the airport perimeter fence alongside us highway 167. The last ADS-B surface report shows the aircraft impacted the rise and fence going 40 knots and received substantial damage to the nose back to the forward pressure bulkhead.
The AWOS-3PT on the field reported at 0110Z ceiling 1000' overcast with winds of 250 at 05 knots. The runway was reported as wet by both the crew and airport manager.
The crew and two of the six passengers all reported aircraft movement consitant with hydroplaning upon touchdown on runway 08. Crew also reported that the brakes were not effective at stopping the aircraft. Neither pilot reported attempting to use the thrust reversers. Hydroplaning speed for the lear 45XR is approx. 115 knots and touchdown groundspeed was between 190 and 170 knots via ADS-B reports.
