From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Passenger laptop fire in cabin as aircraft arrived at gate. Passenger initiated evacuation utilizing emergency window exits. Minor passenger injuries. Minor damage to aircraft carpet and window exit arming pin. Barbados grantley adams international airport (tbpb) to New York, John f Kennedy airport (kjfk), on Saturday, 12-24-22.

As the aircraft arrived at the arrival gate, a fire started under row 8 def from a passenger’s electronic device. Several passengers opened emergency window exits and began to evacuate. Flight attendants quickly stopped evacuation while captain extinguished the fire. There were approximately 6 evacuated passengers. Some of the evacuated passengers returned to the cabin. The other evacuated passengers, already on the ground, were secured by ground crew. There were 6 reported passenger injuries due to the evacuation. None were deemed serious and refused to be transported to the hospital. There was a delay before the jet bridge was position for passenger egress. The delay was due to the requirement to keep or move the jet bridge away from an aircraft once an evacuation is initiated. Once the agent was notified the evacuation was stopped and the L1 slide was disarmed, the jet bridge was positioned for normal egress.

Minor damage to the aircraft was limited to burn marks on the carpet, and a damaged arming pin resulting from the opening of one of the window exits. (Refer to EA15202300966). NTSB (DCA23NA115) elected not to investigate this accident.

As the FAA filed it
