From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Eon-dra message text: Ridgeland, SC (3J1): privacy data omittedexperimental, crashed for unknown reasons while attempting to land runway 18. Aircraft was towed to the ramp. POB: 1, injuries: none, damage: extent unknown. 01/08/2023 2008Z

Pilot statement:

I am writing this statement for the events of 20230108. My aircraft RV8 privacy data omitted departed runway 36 for air work to the west of the field about two miles. After air work was completed. I returned to the pattern for a touch and go continually using runway 36. While staying in the pattern for 36, planned for a full stop I touched down about the middle of the 1000’ marks and proceeded with a wheel landing. While on roll out both main wheels on the ground an unpredictable and unknown force acted against the aircraft causing to the craft to leave the right side of the runway. To prevent property damage to the airport taxi sign I momentarily powered up the aircraft to lift the right wing over the sign avoiding it and the taxi light. This caused the airplane to ground loop to the right side striking the right wing and propeller on the right side of the runway. Found next to my rightwheel pant was a fuel cap from what I believe to be a Piper, unknown if this holds relevance or involvement. Absolutely no injuries to myself as the sole occupant. Aircraft was moved off the active runway in the most timely manner possible.

Please let me know if I can offer anything further.

As the FAA filed it

EON-DRA MESSAGE TEXT: RIDGELAND, SC (3J1): ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^EXPERIMENTAL, CRASHED FOR UNKNOWN REASONS WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LAND RUNWAY 18. AIRCRAFT WAS TOWED TO THE RAMP. POB: 1, INJURIES: NONE, DAMAGE: EXTENT UNKNOWN. 01/08/2023 2008Z

PILOT STATEMENT:

I AM WRITING THIS STATEMENT FOR THE EVENTS OF 20230108. MY AIRCRAFT RV8 ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ DEPARTED RUNWAY 36 FOR AIR WORK TO THE WEST OF THE FIELD ABOUT TWO MILES.
