From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On January 14, 2023, at las Animas county airport (7V9) at 1130 a.m. local, PIC CFI and student were executing a normal landing to runway 26. Student pilot was at the controls. Instructor stated that he smelled exhaust fumes which was reconfirmed by student. (Student later stated exhaust smell was normal) landing profile appeared normal and instructor stated "watch out for power lines" at which point the student pitched up, aircraft speed slowed and the stall warning activated. The instructor had the student add power. The aircraft struck the runway and was veering left. The instructor stated to add full power which the student did. The aircraft continued to veer left striking a parallel t-pole fence approximately 50' left of and halfway down the runway at an altitude of approximately 2 feet. The aircraft entered a plowed pasture left wheel first. Left landing gear broke off and left strut impaled the sod, spinning the aircraft to the left where it came to rest facing east.
