From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot stated, "arrived at kcfd and joined left downwind for RW15. AWOS from cfd indicated calm, no winds at surface noted.

6. Pattern flown as trained and POH, 15°flaps end runway, gear down, 100 mph airspeed. Left base 100-90 mph, 30° flaps at turn into final.

7. Final altitude ~500 AGL, indicated airspeed remained ~90 mph trim configured for final. Noted that configuration seemed to require a little less throttle to keep airspeed (based on experience) and progressed to high 80S mph final 300 yrds from end of runway, past fence appeared ok, then at ~200 yds/~75FT AGL stall warning, then within 1-2 seconds, stalled to ground contact too fast to respond to throttle increase.

8. After stopping, aircraft ~100 yrds to runway, right gear torn off, nose gear collapse. I did not have any obvious injuries, turned off magnetos and master switch. ~6:25 pm, dusk, clear calm weather. Airport personnel contacted and FSDO contact.

9. Concern and/or speculation is that a pitot-static problem caused airspeed error, resulting in inaccurate, higher that actual speeds readings, allowing for approach that was near stall speed. VS0 62MPH in M20F at normal configuration. (Pitot-static system underwent biannual certification in September 2022)."

On February 28, 2023, the reporting inspector examined the scene. The scene shows that the aircraft touched down approximately 200 feet short of runway 15 and slid on the grass appropriately 100 feet. As it slid the right landing gear was ripped off. Damage to the aircraft was minor.

On March 16, 2023, the reporting inspector and an avionics inspector observed an avionics technician troubleshooting the airspeed indicator. The test performed to the airspeed indicator showed that the actual airspeed of the aircraft was 5 miles per hour higher that the reading in the instrument. No obstruction to the pitot noted.

As the FAA filed it
