From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

At cruise altitude pilot encountered engine backfire and engine quit operation. Pilot was able to restart engine, but noted the engine was not able to maintain expected power for throttle setting applied. Pilot applied carburetor heat with no effect and engine quit a second time. Pilot restarted the engine again and had to reduce throttle setting by half to keep engine in operation. Pilot cycled the throttle two times attempting to reset cruise power setting and encountered engine backfire and lower power on each try. Pilot was unable to maintain an engine throttle power setting sufficent to maintain continued flight and opted to land aircraft on a frozen pond outside of Anchorage Alaska.
