What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On March 19, 2023, privacy data omitted operated from sea-bna contacted a movable passenger air stairs while taxing to the gate at bna. The flight operated normally until the aircraft approached the gate. The crew was expecting and briefed an arrival to gate A7. On taxi-in, the crew were informed that they had a gate change to a common use gate, B13. The flightcrew waited as a privacy data omitted aircraft was pushed out of the gate. Once the aircraft was clear and the ground ramp crew was in position, privacy data omitted was ready to proceed to the gate. The crew continued to wait while a belt loader that was clearly inside the safety zone was moved clear of the projected path of privacy data omitted. The flightcrew noticed that there were no safety zone red and white lines painted on the ground around the gate area. When the crew received an “all-clear” signal by all ramp agents, the flight proceeded to taxi forward on the lead marshaller’s command. The crew remained observant of ramp signals and at no time did the ground crew signal anything but “all clear” with wands up. The flight continued forward to a stop at the gate at the command of the lead marshaller. As the crew was debriefing the flight, a csa told the crew that the left wing had hit a set of air stairs on the ramp. The incident chipped paint and left scratches to the left-wing scimitar. The left-wing walker just prior to impact signaled to the lead marshaller to stop the aircraft. The lead marshaller lost sight of the left-wing walker during the taxi operation and was unaware that the signal to stop the aircraft was being displayed by the ramp agent. At no time prior to the final stop position did the lead marshaller give any warning to the flightcrew to stop the aircraft.
