Pilot's description of flight -
VFR flight plan filed (kogd to 67L) for departure at 14:00 on 4/11/2023 using foreflight. Pilot arrived early at kogd, privacy data omitted topped off tip and wing tanks (160 gal), performed preflight inspection according to checklist, noted 10.5 quarters of oil in each engine, engines started immediately, all instruments looked normal, obtained ATIS, contacted kogd ground control, advised taxi to runway 21, performed run-up per checklist, all gages normal, cleared for take-off, full throttle, prop, mixture, gear up on clearing runway, at 5000 ft throttle reduced to 28 inches, RPM to 2450, mixture 75 degrees lean of EGT peak, remained below 5500 in delta airspace, exited delta and remained below floors of class b sectored airspace, flew over the lake west of antelope island, avoided several airplanes over the lake using adsb and visual references, past south of class b, began climb to filed 14,500 altitude, around 9,000 feet oil PSI needle dropped to zero, thought it was a gage malfunction, plane was flying normally and other instruments were normal, decided to go back to ogden, manifold pressure suddenly dropped to 16, EGT went to peak, plane turned right, cylinder temp to red line, I shut down right engine, turned plane left 180 degrees to north heading, decided to land at Tooele, never landed there before, tried to find AWOS and CTAF frequency’s while fly the plane, and scanning instruments, unable to find frequencies, concerned about entering Tooele airspace without talking on CTAF, continued north to edge of lake, looked for the airport but r wing prevented a visual, made r turn to south , saw the airport, no traffic identified, was in good position for a left downwind for runway heading north(35), had west wind at ogd takeoff, felt I could land even with tail wind and left crosswind, continued downwind, descended to visual approximation of pattern altitude, lowered landing gear, airspeed around 92 knots, , turned left to base leg then left to final, was pushed east of final by west wind, made correction to center of runway, kept l wing low with r rudder to keep centered and land on left main because of crosswind, cut l throttle when runway assured, noted unusual prolonged ground affect and faster ground speed despite indicated airspeed below 80, wind was pushing me hard, briefly considered go around and land from the north, would be bad idea(doubtful ability to climb out on one engine and was below minimum controllable single engine airspeed, pushed nose down to get gear on ground, harder landing than usual but all wheels were down in center of runway, pushed hard on brakes but no feeling of grab, pumped brakes with minimal effect, began running out of runway with threat of hitting runway threshold lights, pushed r rudder turning right to avoid threshold lights and exit at north taxiway-runway junction, going too fast to turn right taxiway despite continued breaking, continued into a field, nose gear hit south 6 inch elevated south edge of gravel road running east to west 50 feet north of runway end, nose gear collapsed, plane stopped just north of road damaging nose of airplane, no other damage, no one in plane was injured, both of us exited, thereafter, airport manager, emt’s, sheriff, others came to plane, talked with lady at slc airport FAA who said I could move the plane at will and go to mesquite for scheduled event.
Pilot stated the following: 1) pilot error landed on runway with large tailwind with gusts (after landing, noted wind sock was fully extended pointing north east… expect a 30 knot component tail wind when I landed), 2) r engine malfunction, cause unknown), 3) runway slopes down almost 30 feet from threshold south to north, 4) airplane at almost max weight with fuel and cargo(electric scooter, tools, heavy bags, etc.
