From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot took off from chino. Before take off everything was uneventful... The run up was uneventful. Magnetos checked out good. Flight controls were good. Fuel pump as working well. Flew on the right tank to Riverside. Fuel was at the tabs on take off so had at least 34 gallons of fuel. They departed at 842 am and arrived at 855 am. The flight was uneventful. The landing was uneventful we ate breakfast. Then headed back to the plane. Did run up everything checked out good again. Fuel pump working. Magnetos good. Carb heat good. Switched to left tank and taxied to the runway. Had to wait a while. Engine was running good and smooth. Once cleared for takeoff I had full power. Take off uneventful. Destination was supposed to brackett field. Once I reached about a 1000 ft the engine sputtered and came back. When it did that, I checked the mixture. It was full rich. Fuel pump was on. Fuel on the left tank. Magnetos on both. Then another sputter and then engine quit.I was sure I wasn't going to be able to turn around and get to the airport and so I decided to fly straight ahead making one or two small turns if my memory serves me right. Made sure I cleared the residential area and looked for a place to set it down. Only had seconds I feel and since I couldn't find a flat area, I put it down where they found me. All three of us walkd out without any injuries. This report will be ammended if more information becomes available.
