The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On may 12, 2023, incident aircraft operated in revenue service with 49 passengers and 3 crew, from George Bush Intercontinental/Houston airport (iah) to huntsville international airport (hsv).
Departing runway 09 at iah, the flight crew experienced significant airframe vibration followed by a deceleration in speed and the aircraft pulling to the left. With approximately 4,000 feet remaining runway, the flight crew aborted the takeoff at 120 knots. Upon safely stopping, the aircraft exited the runway with 2,000 feet remaining and became disabled prior to the hold short line. The flight crew suspected the left main landing tire(s) had failed during departure. Time of the event as reported from iah ATCT was 1528Z. The flight crew did not declare an emergency, however, iah tower requested airport crash, fire and rescue respond to the event. No assistance was required for fire or smoke suppression. Brake temperatures reported by the flight crew were at the top of the normal range and were measured at 185 degrees f by fire fighters. There were no reported injuries or adverse reactions to the passengers or crew. Emergency egress of the aircraft was not required. Passengers deplaned normally and were transported by bus to the terminal at iah.
Maintenance at iah responded to the event and after inspecting the aircraft discovered both left main landing gear tires had failed. It was determined that the #2 tire had initially failed causing the #1 tire to fail thereafter. Runway 09 was closed for tire debris and the disabled aircraft remaining in the runway safety area. The left main landing gear tires were replaced and the aircraft was towed to the hangar at iah for further evaluation and repairs.
