What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On may 26, 2023 the incident aircraft arrived in the traffic pattern at L05. The aircraft was initially at an altitude of 9500 feet MSL. The pilot for the incident aircraft initiated a descent while over the airfield. During the descent the pilot noted significant turbulence and elected to discontinue the approach and reassess the situation. The pilot for the incident aircraft decided to execute a low approach in order to assess the landing area. During the descent to the low approach the pilot for the incident aircraft noted that the turbulence subsided to an acceptable level and decided to land the aircraft. However, since the original plan was to execute a low approach only the pilot for the incident aircraft had not performed the landing checklist. The PIC for incident aircraft continued the approach unware of the raised landing gear position. The pilot for the incident aircraft realized the mistake upon making contact with the runway surface.
