From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On June 10, 2023 at approximately 1600 local time, an experimental jmb VL3 aircraft, serial no. 478 departed from runway 20 at the mid-carolina regional airport (ruq) located in Salisbury, north carolina.

The flight was being conducted as a personal flight under part 91 and the pilot was the sole occupant in the aircraft at the time of the event. According to the pilot`s written statement, this was his first solo flight in the aircraft. The weather was clear with no precipitation and the runway conditions were dry.

An on scene investigation revealed that the aircraft had landed left of centerline. The evidence indicated that after touching down, the left brake had been heavily applied, causing the left main tire to blow, causing an uncontrollable skid which pulled the aircraft to the left towards the grass.

After approximately 30 yards, the right main tire also began to skid resulting a skid profile of both main tires for a distance of approximately 200 yards before departing the left side of the runway.

The aircraft continued into the grass, with the left wing striking the taxiway h sign. This impact caused the aircraft to turn suddenly to the left, resulting in the left main and nose landing gear being separated from the aircraft. The aircraft came to rest in an upright position, facing southeast.

The aircraft sustained minor damage and no injuries were reported.

As the FAA filed it
