From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Oshkosh, WI (osh): during light sport aircraft flight activities at the experimental aircraft association (eaa) privacy data omitted event, the rotorway helicopter was struck by an eclipse 10 gyrocopter while operating in the ultralight area on the southwest side of runway 36.

POB: 2, injuries: both fatal, damage: aircraft destroyed. 07/29/2023 1830Z

The rotorway helicopter lost power on impact and plummeted from approximately 250 feet. It struck the ground in a nose-down attitude and came to rest inverted in a drainage ditch south of a public roadway on the eaa grounds. A post-crash fire ensued following the impact and consumed the cabin of the aircraft. Both occupants sustained fatal injuries.

Note: a Mooney M20F serial no. 670015 aircraft parked on the ground with no occupants and no intent to fly incurred significant damage due to impact from the gyrocopter following the midair collision.
