From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The aircraft lost power on takeoff and impacted terrain and a fence causing substantial damage to the wings and landing gear. The pilot stated that the aircraft departed Kanab Utah airport for hurricane Utah after a couple hours of flying the Kanab area. Immediately after takeoff the rate of climb was less than the previous 4-5 take offs, then engine power completely cut out. After ensuring full power setting, he flew the aircraft straight and level to conserve as much altitude & speed as possible to avoid buildings and power lines. He lowered the nose to gain needed speed & lift to clear a final power line. Efforts to clear power line took all remaining lift dropping the aircraft nearly straight down the final 20 feet or so impacting the northbound lane of highway 89A just before the intended emergency landing spot in the hay field. The aircraft skidded through a fence & came to rest about 100 feet into the field. The pilot was properly certificated for the flight. The aircraft required inspections records are current.

As the FAA filed it
