From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

During the takeoff roll, the aircraft exited the runway from the right side, went airborne for a few feet, and hard landed immediately. The aircraft’s landing gear suffered damage upon impact, and the propeller hit the ground while still rotating.

The pilot recalls accelerating for takeoff with an offset to the right from the center line to account for the aircraft's left turning tendency. The departure airport has a narrow runway that is 35-40 feet wide. The aircraft is a tail dragger, and the pilot stated his forward visibility is limited. The pilot recalled the right main landing gear approaching the right edge of the runway. The aircraft departed the runway, hitting a dirt patch that caused the aircraft become airborne approximately five feet.

As the FAA filed it
