From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot stated upon arrival at the Shenandoah regional airport, the runway in use was runway 05. Preceding aircraft reported a direct crosswind. According to the pilot, the AWOS reported winds were out of the northwest, 320 with gusts 16-19 knots. The occurrence report showed the weather as 32015G19KT. The pilot further stated that the initial approach and landing to runway 05 was uneventful. He touched down between 500 ft and 1000 ft of the runway. Once all three wheels were on the ground and was decelerating, an unexpected gust of wind lifted his left wing and started pushing and turning the aircraft towards his right. The aircraft exited the paved boundary of the runway into the grass. Since the grass slopes down adjacent to the runway, the wind, which was now quartering tailwind, lifted the tail of the aircraft. The aircraft paused for an instant vertically on the spinner and proceeded to flip on its back with tail pointing at approximate heading of 120-130. The pilot was able to exit the airplane without assistance as he had no significant injuries. There were no inflight mechanical issues. The aircraft received substantial damage to the top of the vertical and air frame damage under the left wing. The pilot stated he was uninjured.

As the FAA filed it
