From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

On October 20, 2023, at 1507 local time, a Piper cherokee, PA-28-180, departed sikeston, MO (ksik) bound for Jackson, TN (kmkl) with three souls onboard. The pilot in command (PIC) and two passengers. The aircraft arrived at approximately 1555 local at kmkl. The weather at kmkl at 1556 local was reporting wind at 300 degress at 9 knots, visibility was more than 10 statue miles, the sky was clear of clouds, the tempurture was 24C, and the barrometric pressure at 29.79 inches of mercury. The PIC elected to land on runway 29 and entered the left-hand pattern. The PIC did a go around on the first attempt due to an unstable approach. The PIC made a left-hand pattern and continued a downwind, base and final to runway 29. On the second approach the PIC was holding right aileron and left rudder to maintain centerline of runway. According to the PIC statement, he was approaching touchdown and encountered gusty winds, the aircraft slowed with the sink rate increasing. The PIC added power, but the aircraft made hard contact on all three landing gear simultaneously. The aircraft veered sharply to the left. The aircraft's left wing lifted with the left main gear leaving the ground and the nose gear and right main gear staying on the ground. The right-wing tip scraped the runway. The aircraft left the runway and entered the grass. The nose strut collapsed, and the propeller hit the ground and the engine stopped. The pilot and two passengers exited the aircraft unijured and emergency equipment was called.
