From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The accident occurred during an instructional flight while practicing landing. At the final approach fix, the flight instructor simulated an engine failure. The gear warning horn did sound when the left throttle was pulled back to idle to simulate and engine out condition. The student was flying under the hood and continued to "fly the needles" during the approach after the instructor had called out "runway in sight". No call out for three green was made. After a normal landing flare, the aircraft smoothly touched down with the gear retracted. A post accident test on the landing gear showed that the landing gear operated normally.

As the FAA filed it
