From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

• Description: on 12/24/2023 at approximately 0120 hours, the suas took off for flight, piloted by a Turlock police department officer while in the performance of his duties. Approximately 44 seconds after being powered on and at an altitude of approximately 197 feet, a no signal error warning appeared on the controller while nearly simultaneously the suas lost all power and fell to the ground. The suas was recovered in the yard of local resident and no damage (other than to that of the suas) was located at the time. The battery and airframe were separated when recovered. On 12/26/2023, the Turlock police department was notified of damage which had been located by the property owner on 12/25/2023 and was attributed to being a result of the suas accident. The damage consisted of a torn hole in the metal covering of a patio cover. It was determined that the battery had separated from the airframe of the suas while in the air which caused a complete power failure. The battery struck and penetrated the metal roof of the patio cover which caused property damage. The airframe collided into the ground and did not cause damage to other property. At the time of the completion of this report, it is unknown if the damage to the roof will exceed $500 to repair. There were no injuries sustained as a result of this accident. Report completed by Turlock police department.
