From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On January 04, 2024 at 1325 local time, a Cessna 172, operated by a student pilot performing touch and go practice at Elkhart Municipal Airport (ekm) departed the runway approximately 1600FT beyond the displaced threshold of rwy 27 hit a runway marker light and continued approximately another 300FT down the runway in the grass and came to rest just short of taxiway B3. The flight was being conducted under the provisions of title 14 code of federal regulations (CFR) part 91 without a flight plan. Pilot received no injuries. The aircraft received damage to the right gear strut cover where it contacted the runway light, right tires is flat spotted and the propeller has signs of a strike at the tip of one of the blades. Local weather observations at 1328 local was VRB04KT 10SM OVC030 M01/M07 A3033.

The pilot stated he had completed 9 touch and goes and that on his last landing he was preparing to continue on for another takeoff by returning flaps to 0DEG, turned off carburetor heat and began to apply right rudder as he applied full throttle. Upon full throttle the aircraft began to veer to the right and he removed his foot from the right rudder and began to apply pressure to the left rudder to get back to centerline and this caused the aircraft to veer off the runway and hit a light. The student pilot said he applied both brakes, reduced the throttle, and brought the aircraft to a complete stop in the grass. The pilot stated the he believed that he inadvertently applied the right brake pedal when attempting to apply left rudder.
