What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
Aircraft departed runway 24 at Louisville Bowman field (klou). During climb-out, aircraft made a right-crosswind turn climbing to approximately 1,400 ft MSL. While reducing engines to climb power, the PIC and passenger noted that a portion of the fairing aft of the engine cowling on the right engine had departed the aircraft. PIC requested permission to return to the airfield from ATC, which was granted, and the aircraft returned to land on runway 24 without further incident. Post-flight walk-around inspection of the aircraft revealed damage to the leading edge of the right-side horizontal stabilizer from departure of the engine fairing.
