From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

At about 9 miles west of the field, an abnormal clanging noise was heard.

We began a climb from 3500’ to ensure field would be made in case of engine failure. At 7 miles out and 5000 feet, an ecu a and b annunciation was observed.

At 5 miles out, the oil pressure failed and brought power idle to glide the plane into jnx.

On 3-mile base, oil pressure dropped to zero; from there, we had sufficient altitude to make the runway reasonably, so no further troubleshooting action was taken. We landed and taxied off of the runway, and the engine shut down shortly after during the taxi.

Inspection of the engine revealed a large hole in the block. Post-maintenance inspection of the aircraft revealed a probable failure of an inner bearing cap screw. An airworthiness directive has since been issued for this issue (AD2024-05-01)

As the FAA filed it
