From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot of privacy data omitted was on their private pilot practical test. The pilot had passed the oral portion and all of the airwork. After the descent for emergency landing was completed, the pilot moved the throttle to the forward position and the carburetor heat to the off position. The pilot told the DPE the aircraft was not climbing. The engine was producing partial power, but not enough to sustain level flight or a climb. The pilot and the DPE, both went through their flow check for emergency engine out. Since they were unable to correct the loss of power with the terrain rising in front of them, and obstacle to each side, they chose to land on the ridge ahead of them. After touch down the crew performed an emergency evac, looking for any signs of fire. After all wreckage check were completed, the crew used personal mobile phones to contact lidos and 911. They were rescued by the la county sheriffs helicopter.

As the FAA filed it

THE PILOT OF ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS ON THEIR PRIVATE PILOT PRACTICAL TEST.

THIS INVESTIGATION WILL REMAIN OPEN FOR EDITING FOR THE NEXT 120 DAYS.
