From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Received notification of the following details of an unmanned aerial system (UAS) incident:

UAS remote pilot in command (rpic) reported on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at approximately 8:30 am, the visual observer (vo) was given the opportunity to practice flying make: opale, model: xl (trike-gear suas paramotor), registration number FA3EMTR9WE, under rpic (certificate: privacy data omitted) supervision. The UAS was operated on 2.4GHZ.

The vo was instructed on takeoff procedures and performed a dry run with the motor disarmed. The procedure involved the pilot at the controls running while pulling the vehicle to inflate the parachute wing before increasing to full throttle and releasing.

After a successful dry run, an incident occurred causing the vo to trip and the propeller lacerated the calf of her right leg during launch. The vehicle had never departed the ground and no property damage occurred. The vo was immediately bandaged and taken to the hospital for treatment and discharged within 12-hours.

The operation occurred at midstate regional airport (psb).

The injured party reported receiving 24 stitches. No bone involvement, nerve damage, or underlying organ was injured.
