From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On April 17, 2024, at 1145 MDT, a Piper cherokee 180, departed runway 28 during its landing roll at Dona Ana County International Jetport Airport (dna). The private pilot and passenger were uninjured. The aircraft suffered substantial damage to the leading edge of the left wing, engine mount, and nose gear. The personal flight originated from cielo dorado estates airport (NM05) in VFR conditions on April 17, 2024, at 0900 MDT and was performing a touch and go at dna. No flight plan was filed.

The pilot stated that, as the nose gear touched down, the aircraft pulled immediately to the left. He estimated his speed on touchdown to be 60 knots. The pilot continued adding power and pulled back on the yoke. While in ground effect, the pilot reduced his power and drifted approximately 25 yards before landing adjacent to the hold short for runway 10/28. The nose wheel sheared off. The left-wing root impacted the hold short marker. The aircraft continued to slide another 20 yards on its nose.

The nosewheel could have been canted on touchdown but the damage to the aircraft negated any possible verification.

As the FAA filed it
