From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

At approximately 11:30AM local time (lt) for a VFR cross-country dual flight to coolidge municipal airport (P08) coolidge AZ to conduct a full-stop taxi back landing. After landing at P08 the pilot stated that the intention was to continue the flight to Marana regional airport (kavq), Marana AZ. For a full stop landing. The pilot stated that as the aircraft approached the north side of newman's peak in straight-level flight at 4,500 MSL, the engine began to run rough and a grinding noise could be heard in the cockpit. The pilot stated that shortly after the grinding noise was heard the engine immediately stopped. The pilot stated that the propeller did not windmill. The pilot stated that he performed the engine restart checklist, but was unsuccessful in restarting the engine. The pilot stated that he then performed a "mayday" call on the 121.5 radio frequency. The pilot stated that he provided his location, 2 soles on board, turned-on the ELT, and prepared for an emergency forced landing. The pilot stated that neither he or the student were injured during the landing and that they exited the aircraft safety through the aircraft's door.
