From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

This aircraft’s last annual inspection was in 2021. On 4/20/2024 the privacy data omitted and PIC proceeded to Goodyear airport to run up the Cessna’s engine, something he routinely did. He rolled the aircraft out to the center of the tie-down area, which is located near the airport tower. Using the aircraft checklist he turned on the auxiliary fuel pump and then started the engine. After about two minutes he noticed flames appearing behind the rudder control pedals, in the cockpit. The PIC exited the cabin and attempted to douse the using a fire extinguisher. This extinguisher broke down and was not to operate and put out the fire. The PIC looked around for any other extinguishers but did not see one in the immediate area. The PIC then ran to the base of the control tower and called for help. A tower controller then called the fire department the fire department responded within 30 minutes, but by then the aircraft was almost totally destroyed.
