What happened

Pilot reported loss of climb after takeoff. Pilot attempted to return to airport. A successful 180 was made however insufficient altitude remained to return to airport. Pilot leveled glider and touched down off airport. Glider sustained substantial damage upon landing.

PILOT REPORTED LOSS OF CLIMB AFTER TAKEOFF. PILOT ATTEMPTED TO RETURN TO AIRPORT. A SUCCESSFUL 180 WAS MADE HOWEVER INSUFFICIENT ALTITUDE REMAINED TO RETURN TO AIRPORT. PILOT LEVELED GLIDER AND TOUCHED DOWN OFF AIRPORT. GLIDER SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE UPON LANDING.
