From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 05/21/2024 at 0920 this office received a phone call from David Wayne Hooks Memorial Airport (dwh) airport operations manager indicating that a Cirrus vision jet SF50 had veered off the taxiway and into the water. The reporting inspector was on scene to monitor the aircraft removal from the water. The Cirrus vision jet SF50 is steered by differential braking and a full castering nose wheel. The pilot indicated that he was taxiing north on taxiway m when the aircraft began moving slightly to the left. When the pilot applied right brake pressure the pedal went its full travel with no resistance or brake activation. The aircraft veered to the left and entered the water. The right wing tip was touching the bank of the water runway 17 when it came to rest. The pilot secured the engine and called air traffic control. The pilot and passengers exited the aircraft with no injuries. The ballistic parachute system was deactivated and the ELT was turned off by a Cirrus representative familiar with the aircraft. The aircraft sustained no structural damage. The brakes were tested post incident by the Cirrus representative and generated normal pressure. Cirrus representative described the right braking as “spongy”. The pilot and copilot master cylinders, calipers, rotors, and linings were removed and sent to Cirrus in duluth, MN for evaluation.

The aircraft records indicate that the last airframe annual inspection was completed at airframe total time: 180.7, on November 15, 2023. At the time of the incident, the aircraft had accumulated approximately 70.3 hours since the annual inspection.

When any other additional information become available, this report will be amended as necessary.
