From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

May 29, 2024, former privacy data omitted of Piper PA20/22 and new privacy data omitted pilot took off from Hillsboro Oregon airport (khio) for a familiarization flight. Former privacy data omitted flew to scappoose airport (kspb) and new privacy data omittedpilot observed 2 takeoff and landings. Winds were light and from 150 degrees. New privacy data omittedpilot then flew the aircraft from the left seat, pilot-in-command, from scappoose to practice slow flight and stalls in the general area. Then new privacy data omittedpilot proceed back to land at scappoose with 3 full stop landings. New privacy data omitted pilot's comfort level was good and proceded to fuel the aircraft with an additional 14 gallons for the flight back to Hillsboro.

ATIS called for winds 220 6G14 so new privacy data omittedpilot requested runway 20 from tower. As the aircraft approached the airport, 2 other aircraft also were approaching. The tower then reported wind at 250@5 and asked if they still needed runway 20 (not runway in use). New privacy data omitted pilot accepted runway 31L. Aircraft had extra speed upon touchdown and the aircraft responded to control input initially then continued to deviate to the left. New privacy data omitted pilot applied full rudder, aileron and braking, but the tail continued to come around. A ground loop ensued with the right gear collapsing as the side load increased and aircraft crossed into grass. The propellor struck the ground as did the right wing. Both occupants were uninjured. No damage to other persons, property or airport equipment.
