From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

A CFI was instructing a commercial rated pilot on a multi-engine aircraft. On this day, the training consisted of various landings at kspz. While performing an engine out landing on runway 24, the CFI reduced the power to idle in the left engine on the downwind to simulate a single engine failure. The student lowered the landing gear, but the aircraft was unable maintain altitude due to high density altitude that afternoon. The CFI instructed the student to retract the landing gear to reduce drag and help maintain altitude. They continued on with the landing procedure, but the landing gear handle was never put to the down position, which resulted in a gear up landing.
