From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

During landing the left main landing gear leg broke off at mounting bolt hole. Left wing dragged on runway resulting in minor damage to wing tip. PIC stated he flared a little high and the landing was firmer then usual but not bad. The main landing gear leg fractured through the upper of 2 mounting bolt holes approximately ¾” from the end of the landing gear tube perpendicular to the direction of travel (the lower bolt measured 1 ¼” from the end of the tube in the direction of travel). The aircraft manufacturers assembly manual for the main landing gear instructs the builder to drill a hole and install a bolt 1 ¼” from the end of the tube aligned with the direction of travel of the aircraft with no mention of adding a second bolt ¾” from the end of the tube.

As the FAA filed it
