What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On July 19, 2024, at the Danville, KY, airport (dvk) at approximately 1800 EDT, a private pilot was piloting a CESSNA172N (serial #17272308) with 2 passengers onboard. The pilot was attempting to land on rwy 13 when the aircraft landed hard, substantially damaging the nosewheel, firewall, and supporting structure of the aircraft. During the investigation, it appears the pilot conducted his flare high which resulted in a low speed and the hard landing. The passenger in the front seat, who is a commercial rated pilot pushed slightly on the control wheel to alert the pilot to the low airspeed condition. She did this because he is a deaf pilot; however, he was too slow to correct the landing. The aircraft then bounced and swerved a couple of times on the runway surface before exiting the runway to the grassy area on the right side, where it came to a stop upright. Although the aircraft was damaged, there were no injuries to the occupants and no damage to airport property.
As the FAA filed it
ON JULY 19, 2024, AT THE DANVILLE, KY, AIRPORT (DVK) AT APPROXIMATELY 1800 EDT, A PRIVATE PILOT WAS PILOTING A CESSNA172N (SERIAL #17272308) WITH 2 PASSENGERS ONBOARD.
