From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On September 4, 2024 at approximately 1700L (2100Z), CE208, amphibious aircraft, part 91, VFR, departed New York Skyports Inc seaplane base (67N) located in east River, new York and landed at long island macarthur airport (isp). Upon recieving the report of the damage to the aircraft, inspectors from this office examined the aircraft and discovered substantial damage to the left wing. There was one pilot and two passengers on board and no injuries were reported.

According to the pilot, after departure, while the aircraft was in the ground effect, the aircraft rolled to the left causing the left wingtip to come in contact with the crest of the wave. As the aircraft continued to climb, pilot noticed some damage under the left wing. Pilot's planned destination was east hampton airport (jpx), new York but the pilot decided to land at isp. Pilot did not report the damage to ATC because he thought the damage was minimal. Pilot explained that there were a lot ferries in the water and he departed when he saw a small window of opportunity to depart.

Passenger sitting in the right seat of the aircraft stated that pilot was trying to rush between the ferries and hit the wake of the ferry which lauched the aircaft into the air and came back down to the water on the left float.
