From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

PIC and passenger departed in Piper malibu via IFR. At 4,100 MSL, the aircraft sustained a bird strike to the left outboard Wing. PIC contacted ATC and alerted them of the bird strike, relaying the condition of the aircraft performance and description of the visible damage to the Wing. After center declared an emergency, PIC selected runway for landing. PIC landed the aircraft uneventfully and taxied to parking. Snarge was collected and sent to the smithsonian, where the bird struck was confirmed to be a bald eagle. PIC was provided advisory circular for wildlife strike reporting and website for reporting.
