From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 09/30/2024 at approximately 1953 MDT the CRJ700 departing from Denver, CO. (Den) after dark, between 1100 and 1500 feet AGL, received a bird strike. The pilot could hear wind entering the flight deck. Most of the forward windscreen was covered with bird remains. The captain declared an emergency. The aircraft returned to den, landed and taxied to the gate without further incident.

Post flight walk around revealed the aircraft hit 3 large birds; one contacted the captain’s side of the radome, one contacted the first officer’s windscreen, and one contacted the right wing root.

While in Denver the aircraft had required repairs for ferry flight to palm springs, CA (psp) for major structural repairs. Aml 1443977 documents that the aircraft was safe for ferry flight.

Damage was as documented on aml 1443976: damage to upper skin panel, upper electronic bay door, and underlying structure (frame FS193 and stringer 14L, located between fs 193.00 – fs 202.75 and stringer 13-17LHS). This is a major repair, currently in work at psp being documented on CP28951261. Work has been delayed for parts availability.

The upper electronic bay door required replacement as documented on aml 1443983. A crack 1CM long was found in the electrical bay floor web, FS193.00 left side as documented on CP28979725.
