From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 10/16//2024 1515 PDT a C172N veered off runway, came to rest disabled off runway end. Prior to incident of runway overshoot, CFI and student pilot stated while performing a go around, aircraft elevator became difficult to manipulate and decided to land aircraft with insufficient runway remaining. After incident, aircraft was inspected by CFI and student pilot. Both stated elevator end cap was broked and a piece of aluminium from aircraft was jamming elevator. Pictures obtained by airport operations personel confirmed jammed elevator and broken end cap. ASI inspected aircaft and found no visable signs of ground contact or indication of aircaft hitting an object. Runway inspection report revealed no runway lights damaged or FOD was detected. Root cause analysis: plastic end cap on right horizontal stabilizer broken, airframe aluminium structure interfearing with elevator movement.
