From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Accident aircraft landed on the shoreline of a river with the intent to shut down. Upon touchdown, the embankment beneath the helicopter gave way resulting in the helicopter sliding backwards into the river. The pilot stated that he had disengaged the clutch switch so he was unable to pull collective and lift off in an effort to preclude the aircraft entering the water. One of the main rotor blades struck either the water or shoreline resulting in significant damage at the tip of the blade. The pilot shut down the engine and waded to shore.

As the FAA filed it
