From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On the morning of November 29, 2024 at airport 1N1, a pilot holding a private pilot certificate, was performing taxi and flight tests of a Kitfox airplane certificated experimental amateur built. Testing was due to new tires being installed on the aircraft. Pilot built the aircraft which was originally certificated in may of 1991.

After performing both tail down and tail up taxi tests, a successful takeoff and 3 point landing was completed. After a second takeoff a wheel landing was attempted on 1N1 runway 27. After touchdown control of the aircraft was lost and it exited the runway to the north. The left landing gear collapsed causing damage to it, to the propeller, and left-wing tip. Pilot was not injured nor was there any structural damage to the aircraft.

Pilotprivacy data omitted aircraft builder stated that the previous original type tires were no longer available. The newly installed tires were about 1 inch larger in diameter than the original type and a bit wider. During the taxi tests the aircraft seemed a bit less stable but he felt it was controllable.
