From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft privacy data omitted, a Cessna 177RG sn 177RG0946, departed rdm for S33 at approximately 1045 on 12/09/2024 with the intention to practice landings at S33. The pilot was the sole occupant on board. Weather conditions were clear with unlimited visibility, the weather conditions for rdm and S33 were reviewed but a weather briefing was not obtained.

The pilot entered the pattern at S33 for rwy 34 and activated the gear lever to extend the landing gear. The wing mirrors only showed the main gear down at approximately 45 degrees. The nose gear appeared to be fully down. The gear down light did not show green. The pilot departed the pattern for S33 to troubleshoot the issue following the emergency checklist and contacted seattle ARTCC, explained the situation, and received a transponder code.

The landing gear was cycled several times without successfully extending the gear. The manual gear extension was tried also with out success. The pilot stayed clear of populated areas west and south of the dsd VOR and bnd airspace. Additional procedures were tried without success after contacting the aircraft’s usual maintenance provider. It was then decided to make a gear up landing at rdm.

The pilot contacted seattle ARTCC and declared an emergency at approximately 15 miles south of rdm. The pilot contacted the rdm tower and was cleared for a right base for runway 11. The pilot was cleared to make a low pass and the tower observed that the gear was not extended. The aircraft cleared the area for a commercial flight to land. The pilot followed the emergency procedures including putting the gear up and confirming it showed in the locked position, setting full flaps, turning off avionics, and on short final turning off the fuel, master, and ignition switches. The aircraft landed gear up at approximately 55 KIAS on RUNWAY11 coming to a stop between the threshold and aiming point markings at approximately 1255 local time. Emergency equipment responded, no fire or injuries were reported. The aircraft received minor damage to the lower fuselage skin and the propellor contacted the runway. The aircraft was moved from the active runway the gear extended while the aircraft was lifted and towed to Redmond skyservice and put in a hangar.
