From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

An airman performed a preflight inspection on a Cessna 172 in a hangar to avoid exposure to outside cold temperatures. The airman pulled the aircraft out of the hangar with a towbar and returned to the hangar to close the door.

After startup, the airman began taxiing the aircraft and made a turn at which time the aircraft's propeller struck the towbar, propelling the debris towards the aircraft resulting in external damage to the aircraft's skin and propeller.

On may 2, 2025, a request was submitted to the local FSDO for issuance of a special flight permit at which time the incident became known.

Post-incident investigation substantiated damage to the propeller and underside of left wing.

As the FAA filed it
