From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 01/02/2025, the pilot of a Cessna 560 had the aircraft fueled in preparation for a part 135 flight out of the Lincoln, Nebraska airport (lnk). There were six passengers, a pilot and co-pilot for this flight. After fueling, the pilot discovered the aircraft to be over the max takeoff weight. To reduce weight prior to takeoff, the pilot requested to takeoff from runway 36, which is a longer taxi distance and would burn more fuel. The pilot received clearance to taxi to runway 36 via taxiway k and d. the pilot decided to increase engine power and drag the brakes as he taxied to burn off fuel faster. The aircraft was taxied in this manner from crossing runway 32 on taxiway k to the south end of taxiway d between taxiway h and runway 36. This is where both main landing gear tires deflated due to melted fuse plugs. The pilot noticed smoke coming from the brakes then, through the window, saw the left brake on fire. The flight crew and passengers evacuated the aircraft. The pilot and co-pilot attempted to extinguish the fire with the two portable fire extinguishers on board the aircraft, but the fire reignited. The pilot boarded the aircraft to use the radio to ensure fire rescue was on their way. The flight crew confirmed all passengers were accounted for and unloaded the baggage from the aft baggage compartment. Fire rescue arrived and extinguished the fire. There were no injuries reported from this incident.

The initial damage assessment by maintenance indicates both wheel assemblies had fire damage. Damaged wheel assemblies, brake assemblies and associated damaged parts will be replaced. Further inspection/repair of the area will be performed in accordance with Textron guidance.

As the FAA filed it
