From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft is flying straight and level. Makes a hard right descending turn, parashoot deploys and opens before impact. A post crash fire consumes the aircraft. Pilots stated the following, after the first set of touch and go, tower told PIC to extend upwind. In the downwind leg, tower told PIC to keep the downwind leg close to the departure end of RWY25 for departing traffic. When the aircraft was on the downwind, abeam the numbers of 15R, the PIC disconnected the autopilot and initiated a descent. Followed shortly by a "bang" coming from the left wing and then the aircraft started an uncontrolled bank to the right, PIC tried to correct the aircraft followed by the CFI pressing the autopilot disconeect and both were unsuccesful to correct course. The caps was deployed and the aircraft landed in a field where both pilots excavated themselves out of the aircraft. The aircraft was consumed by a post crash fire.
