Summarized pilot account:
The Piper seneca ii was rented for multi-engine practice and time building. The pilot and safety pilot departed kdwh toward klbx and the flight was uneventful. After arriving at klbx, the flight crew perform touch and goes at the airport. After the third touch and go, the pilot noticed the gear horn audio alarm sounded at 22 inches of manifold pressure instead of 20. The safety pilot noticed the gear transition light would not extinguish after the gear was retracted. The pilot observed through the landing gear mirror the nose gear was retracted. The pilot decided to extend the landing gear, and the panel showed three green lights, but the gear transition light stayed illuminated. The pilot made the decision to land the aircraft to examine the landing gear.
During the examination, it was noticed the link attaching the landing gear door was broken. The pilot called the flight school, and it was decided to fly the aircraft back to kdwh with the landing gear down. The flight back to kdwh was uneventful, with the pilot commenting the wind was strong from the south at 20 knots.
The aircraft arrived at kdwh and entered the pattern for 17R. On final approach the aircraft was configured with two notches of flaps and airspeed was around 79 to 80 knots. After touch down on the center line the pilot used aerodynamic braking to slow down. After a few seconds on roll out, the aircraft yawed to the right and skidded to a stop. The pilot shut down the engines and exited the aircraft. The safety pilot noticed the right main landing gear was located past the runway numbers.
Note:
The wind advisory for kdwh at the time of the incident indicated 210 degrees at 14 gusting to 21 knots. The max cross wind landing for the aircraft is 17 knots.
