From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

12 Feb 2025 considered a kstl weather event the entire day with the city snow and ice control plan in effect.

privacy data omitted Receives last ATIS at 16:43:32, 6 and 1/2 minutes prior to landing. ATIS indicates ficon 5/5/5 but does not show any contamination description for any runway. Heavy snow event is occurring just prior to privacy data omitted landing. Landing data assessment by crew via aerodata: 4,777’ required runway length based on ficon 5/5/5. (RWY11 is 9,000’)

RWY11 deiced at 1630Z, mu values 0F 87/89/88. Ficon 5/5/5, no change from assessment at 0038Z.

privacy data omitted (B-737-800) lands on RWY11 at 1635Z, exits A2, does not report any braking action.

Rwy 12R assessed as 5/5/5 at 1646Z. City asks ATC to close it. Heavy snow continues to fall on cold soaked surfaces. 12R closure was to occur after privacy data omitted and privacy data omitted departed. They had already de-iced and were taxiing to the runway during the call for coordination to close.

Snow crews coordinate with tower to close, treat and assess RWY11 (heavy snow falling) but were told to wait until privacy data omitted and two additional aircraft land, approximately 8 minutes.

No other landings until 1650Z when privacy data omitted lands and slides into grass at RWY11/tango intersection. privacy data omitted And privacy data omitted on approach for landing RWY11 enter holding.

After the incident, city calls ATC to assess/clean the other runways prior to anyone departing or arriving. All runways were shown as closed at this time.

RWY12L was cleaned, treated and reopened with a ficon of 2/2/2 at 1721Z. GJS3375 diverted to ind (ferry flight with ballast fuel) and RPA310 landed rwy 12L at approximately 1737Z.

Landing/rollout

F/o landed “on speed in tdz", reverse thrust and braking applied at nosewheel touchdown. Foqa data shows touchdown at 1,600', 129 KIAS. Braking and thrust reverser deployment within 2 secaircraft “aggressively” pulled to the right at brake application.

F/o released brakes, steered aircraft back to centerline, then continued braking. CA took over at 80 KTS, out of reverse at 60 KTS.

Captain noticed brakes "not very effective." Captain stated he was not certain if anti skid system was working. Attempted to make A3, but "aircraft is sliding and too fast to make it." No further attempts to deploy thrust reversers. Captain was concerned re-applying reverse thrust might cause a worse condition if one did not deploy (asymmetry).

Aircraft skidding on brake application between A3 and tango, not slowing. F/o calls tower and reports braking action "medium to poor."

"Aircraft began to slide in a diagonal direction between A2 and tango." Captain straightened the nose and applied hard braking.

Attempted to turn onto tango to avoid exiting runway at the end. Aircraft exited prepared surface (20-30 KTS) at intersection of RWY11 and tango. No injuries, passengers bussed to terminal at 1725Z.

Aircraft assessed by gj mx- all aircraft systems were fully operational. Two nosegear tires replaced.

Ficon assessment of 2/2/2 just after 1700Z (gojet equivalent of poor braking)

GJS3375 dispatcher included "ground icing conditions may exist at stl and kunv" in remarks section of ofp.

GJS4427 ofp contained no remarks.

No discussions between captain and dispatch before the flight to discuss operational considerations in stl.

No en route communications between GJS4427 and dispatch.

As the FAA filed it

12 FEB 2025 CONSIDERED A KSTL WEATHER EVENT THE ENTIRE DAY WITH THE CITY SNOW AND ICE CONTROL PLAN IN EFFECT.

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ RECEIVES LAST ATIS AT 16:43:32, 6 AND 1/2 MINUTES PRIOR TO LANDING. ATIS INDICATES FICON 5/5/5 BUT DOES NOT SHOW ANY CONTAMINATION DESCRIPTION FOR ANY RUNWAY. HEAVY SNOW EVENT IS OCCURRING JUST PRIOR TO ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ LANDING.

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ (B-737-800) LANDS ON RWY11 AT 1635Z, EXITS A2, DOES NOT REPORT ANY BRAKING ACTION.

RWY 12R ASSESSED AS 5/5/5 AT 1646Z. CITY ASKS ATC TO CLOSE IT. HEAVY SNOW CONTINUES TO FALL ON COLD SOAKED SURFACES. 12R CLOSURE WAS TO OCCUR AFTER ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ AND ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ DEPARTED. THEY HAD ALREADY DE-ICED AND WERE TAXIING TO THE RUNWAY DURING THE CALL FOR COORDINATION TO CLOSE.

SNOW CREWS COORDINATE WITH TOWER TO CLOSE, TREAT AND ASSESS RWY11 (HEAVY SNOW FALLING) BUT WERE TOLD TO WAIT UNTIL ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ AND TWO ADDITIONAL AIRCRAFT LAND, APPROXIMATELY 8 MINUTES.

NO OTHER LANDINGS UNTIL 1650Z WHEN ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ LANDS AND SLIDES INTO GRASS AT RWY11/TANGO INTERSECTION. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ AND ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ON APPROACH FOR LANDING RWY11 ENTER HOLDING.
